First week of the Olympics!

Although I am not part of the games this year, I have been glued to the TV, watching all the athletes from the USA compete. I personally know many of these athletes from training at the same gym here in Park City, so it is so fun to watch them do their things. My favorite moment so far has been Johnny Spillane winning the silver medal on the normal hill. I have known all the Nordic combined athletes for years, and have trained side by side with them on the jump. That was such a cool race to watch all the Americans do so well with Johnny in 2nd, Todd Lodwick 4th, Billy Demong 6th, and Brett Camerota in 36th. I look forward to watching the K125 event, and the team event. The US athletes have very good chances in the next Nordic Combined competitions. It was also great to watch Julia Mancuso, and Lindsey Vonn claim the top two spots in the Downhill podium last night. The emotion showed by Vonn shows how hard she has worked, and I was very inspired by her.
Of course I can’t forget about the Ski Jumping. I am pulling for the young US team to do well. Good luck to Anders Johnson, Pete Frentte, and Nick Alexander for the large hill event. My guess for this event is Simon Ammann, he is jumping so well, and will be hard to beat.
Congrats to all the US athletes that have taken part in the Olympics, I will keep watching!!!

    Hi Lindsey,
You probably don’t remember me, but I remember you very well. Your mom and I were the closest of friends when you were born and lived here in Michigan. I love the winter games. I record whatever I can’t see Live. I was very disappointed when your mom told me that they were still not having Women’s ski jumping at the Olympics. I know you have worked very hard and for a very long time to be a success. It is terrible that they won’t let you compete. So I will sign the petition and wish you all the best for the next Olympics, maybe they will see reason by then. It truly is discrimination not to let women compete. After all they now have Women’s hocky and Women’s snowboarding, they didn’t always have those in the Olympics!
I haven’t seen you since I visited Park City when you were still a child. But I will never forget playing ‘statue’ with you. You were so wild and crazy we played the game, just to get you to slow down. Well I’m glad you haven’t slowed down and you have accomplished so much.
Give my love to your brother, you dad, and your mom. Every time I hear the name Lindsey Vonn I think of you.

    Love,
    Aunt Jenny

    Hey Lindsey,
Just wanted to say I am pulling for you all in 2014. I am currently writing a speech about why women’s ski jumping should be in the olympics. I think it is pathetic that the IOC is so stubborn. Like you, I have been glued to my t.v. watching the olympics. I am friends with Johnny Spillane and was thrilled to see him do so well. Let me know if there is anything to do to help your efforts in getting women’s ski jumping in the olympics, whether it is writing letters or making phone calls.

    Thanks!

    Hayden

  4. I have noticed. My husband just noticed…”why isn’t there any women jumping?” There is an artical in Ski Magazine about it in this months issue. Personally it doesn’t make any sense. If women jumped before then it’s a category to be re-instated. The sport cannot classify as new.
Keep pluggin Lindsey! Many U.S. Althletes feel the same way.

  5. Chris Glen Says:

Hey Linds! Haven’t seen you in forever…unbelievable to see you alls growns up now. I saw your pop the other day, hopefully he passed along the good wishes. Hard to believe that the IOC still hasn’t recognized women’s participation in this sport. Some would posit that the overall medal counts factored into their position. Hypothetically speaking, would a combined Men’s/Women’s Ski Jumping category be a step forward for the sport and would it be a fair competition?

    Best of luck!!

  6. Jan Gurley Says:

    Dear Lindsay,

I read the article about you in Sports Illustrated and just wanted to say, “WOMEN IN SKI JUMPING WILL SEE THEIR DAY COME IN THE OLYMPICS”! Keep up the good fight against discrimination. You have won the “Gold” in my book!

    Regards,
    A thankful American Woman
